Summer Festivals!

Hi Everyone,

With the heat of the day and the singing of the katydids,  it is hard to believe we are already at the end of July and August is just around the corner.

What summer fun have you and your family or friends been up to?
Living in an area filled with lots of natural beauty you might always find something to do outdoors, but sometimes we need just a little extra to add to all the fun. Western North Carolina is a vibrant and creative community and "Festivals" are a great place to experience all it. Everything from Artist displaying their work, delicious food vendors, and music galore that is sure to please everyone style.
I personally love festivals to pick up that extra special gift for birthdays and Christmas.
We scouted the area for you. Here is a list of upcoming "Festival" for you and your family and friends to add to your summer fun...

Canning! It's that time of the year!

Canning...how many of you love the sound of that word? When we think of canning we think of HARD work but real rewarding.

How many of you have a garden? And how many of you have more cucumbers than you know what to do with? Pickles are the perfect thing to can with all of those cucumbers. What about the squash and zucchini? They can be used to can relishes or just slice and freeze! Okra is also really good pickled!

Before you know it tomatoes will be coming in by the pounds which is my personal favorite! I love to can salsa and Italian sauce.

Living off the land is a lot of hard work but truly pays off at the end of the season. Aside for canning, freezing is an easy way to put up corn, peppers, beans, squash, and more. Fill that freezer and stock up the canning room because when the winter rolls around it will provide the perfect food for a good bowl of soup or a country dinner! AND don't forget the BERRIES for pies, cobblers, jellies, and jams! Boy oh boy let's get to work!
